Hi there. First, I want to say how much I've enjoyed your homepage and news letters. If I lived closer to Toronto (I live in Baltimore), I'd be a member for sure. As it is, I have to content myself with occasional visits to Fire Island, P-town, Haulover (on those rare trips south) and the west coast beaches. Now that my lover and I have an infant daughter, even those trips will, I fear, become far less frequent. I'm intrigued by the inherent tension between nudity and sex. While one doesn't directly correlate to the other, there is a substantial overlap. I don't know how one effectively separates them. Moreover, at least for me there is a subtle eroticism in being naked in the outdoors, especially at beaches. I'd be surprised if I were alone in that feeling. Does that mean that I get a roaring hard-on when I'm at a nude beach? Of course not. Does that make me more frisky for fun later? You bet. Oddly enough, I don't get that same feeling at nudist parties in someone's home, and I frankly cannot imagine doing nude (or nearly nude) in a public place other than the woods or a beach. I certainly recognize the perils of public sex on nude beaches, and how that endangers the availability of it for all. By the same token, a hot fuck with my lover on a completely empty, secluded beach harms no one. (I'll confess to some play in the dunes too, but that was out of sight). I suspect that I'm not alone in that, either. It seems to me that this tension raises the larger issue of public sex and aggressive--and inappropriate--public cruising, which is even more complicated. As a community we don't do enough in the way of self-policing inappropriate or unwanted behavior, in part, I think, because we recognize that it's the love of cock that makes us who we are. That's another discussion for another day (preferably with a cold beer, warm sun, and no clothes on). By the way, have you ever tried out Pirate's Cove beach near San Luis Obispo? It's a small gay nude beach, which is only accessable by climbing down a fairly steep cliff, and using a rope at one point. It's little known, but one of the most beautiful around. I highly recommend it. I'm sorry for the long message, but intelligent discussion on these topics is rare. I'm not closeted, but I would ask that if you want to quote any of this, please do not use my last name. Thanks-- David.
