Greetings from the Pacific Northwest! Wow, what a summer!! Wreck Beach was fantastic last year. I arrived in May and the temp. was already in the 20's.
The main beach is the best spot to hang out, as it is now a popular destination for European tourists. On July 1st, we met guys from Spain, Holland, and Russia. Talk about your parade of Adonises! Yee-owza!! I would say there were about 2000 people-people who love people-on that wonderful hot July day.
A real feature of Wreck Beach is the seaside service. Wandering vendors sell ice-cold beer, stuffed croissants, fresh baking, coffee, and of course weed and magic mushrooms! And the vendors aren't bad either. The cock-of-the-walk is Wayne, a cute Bear Cub with big blue eyes and a Hollywood smile. He sells Rice Crispie squares for $2 each that he makes himself, nude, every morning. It's well worth the two bucks just to have him stop by! We always take out our money slooowwlllyyy to extend the Panavision. Then we get to watch his orb-like full-fur buttocks waltz away. Yummy!
The gay beach, called Oasis Beach, is 1/4 mile from the main beach. It tends to attract a quiet group, not much into frisbee or bodysurfing. A group of 20 would be considered "busy" there. Trails are really the main event as Oasis Beach.
Halfway between Wreck and Oasis is the unnamed former gay beach from the 70's. This gorgeous curved beach is in the process of being taken back by nature. Weeds and trees have taken root amongst the two-ton logs splayed about. A group of us plan to go down there this spring with rakes and shovels, and clean it up. We'll leave the trees and remove the grasses. This beach's death was the direct result of capitalist greed: MacMillan Bloedel has cut off the tide by storing logs here.
After the beach season ends, the only clothing-free activities are the straight swim nights, which can be quite festive. Both locations have whirlpools and huge saunas.
Summer is just around the corner again, and we plan to enjoy spending lots of time at Wreck Beach. Garth Barriere sends Nude Greetings. We miss you all and all the events. Hope to see you soon!
