TNT!MEN Celebrates Victory on Victoria Day
(12 May 1999)To celebrate the restoration of clothing-optional status to Hanlan's Point Beach, TNT!MEN will host a beachside opening ceremony on Monday, May 24th (Victoria Day) at 1 p.m. Kyle Rae, who spearheaded our proposal's passage through Toronto City Council, will be on hand to help greet our very special guest, Her Imperial Majesty, Queen Victoria. Come see whether she is amused when our own Peter Simm cuts through a ribbon to officially liberate the beach from the tyranny of textiles!
Representatives of the Federation of Canadian Naturists, Hanlan's Beach Naturists, and the Ontario Roaming Bares are invited to join our celebration, along with all members of Toronto City Council (including the hairy chested George Mammoliti).
How do you get there? You have to take the ferry from the mainland. You'll find the ferry docks at the south end of Bay Street, on Queens Quay West. Walked south around the Harbour Castle hotel. The ferry costs $5 return for adults, $3 for kids/seniors. Take the Hanlan's Point ferry at gate four.
The Hanlan's Point ferries leave every 30 minutes at quarter after and quarter to the hour (:15 and :45). (The city has a web site with ferry schedules (here) but that hasn't been updated since 1997 and it's wrong, so just ignore it.)
Once you land on the island, follow the roadway.
At the tennis courts, you'll see a break in the trees to the west.
This leads to the supervised (clothed) swimming area. Turn left
(south) and was past the barrier screen to get to the nude beach.
The city will be installing signs to mark the boundaries of the beach,
so you won't have any trouble finding it once those signs are up.
There is a good chance that the signs will be up by May 24th for the
long weekend.
